Printing to a Text File

Printing to a Text File

New postby user on Tue Apr 07, 2009 2:25 pm

I printed a short report to a text file and then opened the file with Excel. The file did not contain all of the assets. If I print the same report, all of the assets are on the printout. Why are some assets missing from this file?

Our reports are not designed to go to Excel and even though the option for TXT is available, we recommend that you use PDF when printing reports to file. Excel and TXT cannot accommodate the amount of data and the calculations that are performed during the creation of Asset Keeper reports. In past years we literally dumped the data into an Excel spreadsheet, which caused users to send emails stating that they didn’t like the fact that the spreadsheet doesn’t contain the formulas. Excel simply cannot accommodate the formulas necessary to generate our reports. In addition, the formatting will get messed up and detail could be lost.

If you need to get your data into an Excel spreadsheet we suggest that you use our Export option. Go to the File menu, Options, Export. This will generate an Excel spreadsheet with the data you specify and in the order that you specify, but again, it will not include formulas.
